Mikumi is located North of Selous Game Reserve about 300km from Dar-es-Salaam. Because of its accessibility it is one of the most popular parks in Tanzania. It is an important center for ecology and conservation students; animals like lions, wild dogs, waterbuck, wildebeests, zebra, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and sable antelope are seen. The recently gazetted Saadani National Park, Tanzania's first coastal wildlife sanctuary, is located on the Indian Ocean coast some 45km north of Bagamoyo and directly west of Zanzibar. The park contains many indigenous species including Liechtensteins´ hartebeest and the rare Roosevelt sable.
