Recently expanded to become the largest National Park in East Africa and second after Kafue National Park in Zambia Ruaha is the second largest Wildlife Protection Area in Africa. It is Tanzania´s biggest elephant sanctuary. Its name derived from the Great Ruaha River, which flows along its eastern boarder. Animal such as hippo, crocodile, various antelopes, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, lion, leopard, cheetah, striped and spotted hyena and wild dogs are frequently seen. Best months for game viewing are during dry season from July to November when animals are concentrated around shrinking water courses.
